Choosing Russia for PM Modi’s first bilateral visit is a fine expression of strategic autonomy. In hard geopolitics, however, it’s the tightest of tightrope walks. India aligned strategically with Washington and the West three decades ago. Modi’s decade only accelerated this shift. This is hell of a contradiction to manage.

SC guidelines hit at chronic popular culture problem of using disabled people for comic relief

Discrimination against people with physical and cognitive disability is already unlawful. SC’s new guidelines have rightly expanded the definition to forbid stereotyping them in creative industry. Negative portrayals and using them for comic relief is a chronic popular culture problem. Right to life with dignity is central to anti-discrimination laws.

Left has won but internal divisions will dilute France’s role in EU. Tough times ahead

France’s Left deprived Marine Le Pen a victory, but the country is more divided today. The next three years will be hard for a weakened Macron. Political confusion will dilute France’s role in EU amid Ukraine war. If there’s a change in White House, it won’t look pretty for Europe.
