Indian intelligence officials being expelled from Australia, Germany and elsewhere is an avoidable embarrassment. Friends sometimes spy on friends. Just that it needs sophistication and discretion, always weighing risk and benefit especially with strategic partners. Indian intelligence would do better focusing more on real adversaries such as China and Pakistan.
Most democracies have parliamentary oversight for the intelligence services. Ours do not even have a formal charter. Perhaps that is the direction to move in. One does not read of the FBI preparing reports on how many seats the Republicans and Democrats will win. Although the CIA must be having a pretty good idea of what 4th June will bring.
