Union minister Rupala’s ‘anti-Rajput’ and Haryana minister Chautala’s ‘anti-Brahmin’ remarks are provocative and deplorable. They drew no lesson from Modi surname controversy that led to Rahul Gandhi’s conviction. Mere condemnation by BJP won’t do. Politicians making casual slurs about caste groups borders on criminality and needs to be checked decisively.

Eric Garcetti’s remark shows Pannun issue far from over. India should conclude probe convincingly

Eric Garcetti has raised Pannun again. Shows the issue is far from over. While Washington will stress how important India is, it is sure to keep the pressure on New Delhi. India should conclude the probe convincingly and find closure on this most difficult conversation in a still-evolving vital relationship.

  1. This is a somewhat strange assertion by The Print. Having seen a video of Mr. Chautala’s original comments on the brahmin community, I did not find anything deplorable or provocative. Did the brahmins not establish the caste system in India? Is the same caste system not an impediment to the integration and progress of Hindu society? I have also seen a video of Mr. Chautala’s subsequent pathetic apology, which was quite amusing. Here, I agree that no (caste) group should be targeted maliciously. Still, just because it upsets some people, the truth should not be condemned.
