Doval–Wang Yi talks mark a tentative thaw, with both sides moving to ease border tensions and revive normalcy. But the onus is on Beijing: it was China’s movement that ruptured trust. Without de-escalation at the border, settling areas where claims don’t exist, genuine normalisation of India–China relations will remain elusive.
Constitution Amendment Bill, providing for removal of PM/CM/Minister if they’re arrested or detained beyond a month, is mala fide. It’ll further weaponize investigative and law enforcement agencies against the Opposition. It’ll empower them to overturn people’s mandate. This proposed law is dangerous for democracy. Government must desist from pursuing it.
In matters of criminal jurisprudence, a conviction obtained after a fair trial should be the start of the electoral disqualification process. Not mere arrest and denial of bail. Since an individual’s life and liberty are at stake, full recourse to the appellate process, concluding with the honourable apex court.
