Gurugram, Aug 30 (PTI) A massive fire suddenly broke out in a municipal sanitation vehicle near Rajiv Chowk on Gurugram’s Delhi-Jaipur Highway on Sunday morning, police said.
There were no injuries in the incident, with the driver’s timely exit from the truck, they said.
According to eyewitnesses, the municipal corporation’s truck was engaged in cleaning and garbage collection as per the daily routine. When the vehicle reached the area beneath the Rajiv Chowk flyover, thick smoke suddenly began emanating from the engine. The driver pulled the vehicle over to the roadside and jumped out as towering flames erupted amidst the billowing smoke, eyewitnesses said.
On receiving information, fire tenders rushed to the scene, and the blaze was brought fully under control. The vehicle’s engine and cabin were completely gutted in the fire and reduced to a heap of charred metal, a fire officer said.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a short circuit in the vehicle’s engine could have caused the fire, according to the officer. The garbage collection vehicles are equipped with hydraulic systems and various electronic components; a technical malfunction led to sparking, which ignited the fire, he added.
The incident led to a brief traffic disruption, but police removed the burnt vehicle, restoring the traffic in about an hour, officials said. PTI COR PRK
