Kolkata rape-murder case Highlights: The Supreme Court has resumed the hearing in the matter related to trainee postgraduate doctor who was found raped and murdered on August 9 morning.

A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra will be hearing the matter today. On August 22, following the initial hearing, the court took suo motu cognisance of the case. The matter took a turn after the parents of the victim levelled bribery and negligence allegations on Wednesday against the Kolkata police.

The bench will also consider the recent application led by the central government which accuses the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government of being non-cooperative in assisting the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). The central police force has been deployed to provide security at the RG Kar Hospital.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was on Friday, August 23, granted permission by the Calcutta High Court (HC) to conduct a polygraph test or a lie detector test on the four colleagues of the Kolkata doctor, who was raped and murdered in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital seminar room, to understand what transpired in the nal hours of the 31-year-old.

The four colleagues two rst-year postgraduate trainees, a house surgeon and an intern had dinner with the deceased doctor on the day of the incident. Sources have told NDTV that while they are not accused in the Kolkata doctor rape case, their statements are contradictory.

The investigation agency wants to understand if the trainee doctor’s colleagues, who saw her before and after the incident, have had any role to play into the allegations of evidence tampering. The central agency has also found the ngerprints of the two of these four colleagues in the seminar room at the third oor where the body was found.

The CBI also wants to understand what happened between 10:53 am and 11:15 am when the family of the victim was called. During the rst call, the family was told by the hospital that their daughter was unwell”; in the second call, made at 11:15 am, the family was informed of the suicide”.

All the doctors have earlier been questioned by the Kolkata Police and the CBI. The investigation agency had earlier told the Supreme Court that there was an attempt to cover up the rape and killing of the post-graduate medic by the local police as the crime scene was altered by the time the federal agency took over the probe.

Meanwhile, the CBI will also conduct the lie-detector test on Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Hospital, who is under scanner for his response following the discovery of the doctor’s body. The Calcutta High Court has also transferred the investigation of nancial irregularities involving Sandip Ghosh, previously handled by a Special Investigation Team (SIT), to the CBI.

The women commission in Bengal seems to keep their mouth shut on this worst issue which concerns the entire women safety in Bengal. And shame on the Bengal government which is failing to provide security to women of Bengal and atrocities are in vogue in this state and increasing on a daily basis. Is Bengal a safe place to live anymore? Is Bengal in the worst hands? These questions haunt me and hopefully the entire nation. What is the future in store for this state which is undergoing unsafety and has become a crime-prone zone? It is now proved that Mamata Banerjee government along with Kolkata police is a complete failure when it comes to the safety of women out here. Such a government should be dismissed and I hope presidential rule takes over in WB.

Justice delayed is justice denied is indeed true and justice has to be served, criminals should be punished in a way that in future such crimes do not take place in the world especially in Bengal or India.
