Washington: President Donald Trump mocked the Academy Awards for honoring the movie “Parasite” as the best picture.

“By the way, how bad were the Academy Awards this year? Did you see?” Trump said Thursday night at a rally in Colorado Springs, Colorado. “And the winner is: A movie from South Korea, what the hell was that all about? We got enough problems with South Korea with trade, on top of it they give them the best movie of the year? Was it good? I don’t know.”

Trump said he preferred classic Hollywood films such as “Gone with the Wind,” released in 1939, and “Sunset Boulevard,” released in 1950, to “Parasite,” which also won for best international film, best director and best original screenplay. “I thought it was best foreign film, right? Best foreign movie. No! Did this ever happen before?” Trump asked.

It was the first foreign language film to capture the top prize.

Neon, the company that distributes “Parasite,” responded to Trump on Twitter, suggesting he couldn’t understand the subtitles. “Understandable, he can’t read,” the tweet said.

Trump has regularly mocked the Academy Awards for what he sees as dwindling relevance. This year’s Oscars were the least-watched ever.-Bloomberg
