MEXICO CITY, April 23 (Reuters) – U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ronald Johnson on Thursday hinted at “significant action” soon on tackling bribery and corruption as part of the countries’ trilateral trade pact with Canada.
“(Trade agreement) USMCA requires our governments to criminalize bribery and corruption and enforce codes of conduct for public officials,” Johnson said in remarks sent by the embassy. “We may soon see significant action on this front.”
Reuters exclusively reported in October that the U.S. had revoked the visas of over 50 Mexican politicians, with a State Department official citing visa revocations as coming due to “activities that run contrary to America’s national interest.”
