New Delhi: The British High Commissioner to Bangladesh has welcomed the appointment of the interim government in the country and said that the UK will support the country’s progress towards democracy.
Sarah Cooke said that the UK has a deep and enduring relationship with Bangladesh.
In a statement, she said, “The interim government has the UK’s support as it works to restore peace and order, ensure accountability and create a peaceful pathway to an inclusive and democratic future for the people of Bangladesh.”
Cooke said that she discussed with the Adviser for Foreign Affairs how the UK can support the interim government in its work.
She said, “We have been deeply saddened by the violence and all loss of life in recent weeks. We recognise the bravery of the students and many others who through peaceful protest called for a different future for Bangladesh.”
The British High Commissioner to Bangladesh said that the UK will also support the efforts of the interim government in creating a peaceful environment and restoring order in the country.
At the same time, she said, “The UK welcomes the appointment of the interim government, led by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
