A Thai-flagged cargo vessel struck by Iranian projectiles earlier this month has run aground after drifting for weeks in the Strait of Hormuz, and efforts are underway to locate three missing crew members.

The Mayuree Naree is now “aground on an Iranian island,” Khalid M. Hashim, managing director of Precious Shipping Pcl, the ship’s owner, said in an email Friday. The vessel ran aground on the coast of Qeshm Island, Iran’s state-owned Press TV reported.

Separately on Friday, Thai Foreign Ministry spokesman Panidone Pachimsawat said an Omani-Iranian rescue team has reached the vessel and is attempting to locate the missing sailors. Their condition remains unknown.

Twenty other crew members were evacuated shortly after the March 11 attack while the vessel was transiting the strategic waterway.
