New Delhi: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has appointed a new Country Director for Azerbaijan. Sunniya Durrani-Jamal joined the Azerbaijan Resident Mission Monday to officially commence her role.
In her new role, Ms. Durrani-Jamal will lead ADB’s operations in Azerbaijan, fostering relationships with the government and other stakeholders. She will oversee the preparation and implementation of ADB’s new country partnership strategy for Azerbaijan, aligning with the government’s development strategy and ADB’s Strategy 2030.
“It is an honor to lead ADB’s efforts in Azerbaijan, a country of rich culture and significant economic potential,” said Ms. Durrani-Jamal.
The ADB supports Azerbaijan’s economic diversification and quality of life. The bank assists Azerbaijan’s COP29 Presidency and climate summit.
Ms. Durrani-Jamal brings over 25 years of professional experience, including 16 years at ADB in various senior roles, the release added. Since joining ADB in 1999, Azerbaijan has received over $5 billion in sovereign and private sector assistance, focusing on sectors like transport, energy, healthcare, and agriculture
