PARIS (Reuters) – Slovakia has reported an outbreak of avian influenza on a poultry farm, the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) said on Tuesday, as Europe faces a seasonal upturn in the deadly disease commonly known as bird flu.

The H5N1 virus killed 200 birds on a farm in the southwestern town of Kamarno near the border with Hungary, with the rest of the 40,260-strong flock slaughtered, the Paris-based WOAH said, citing the Slovakian authorities. Hungary has also reported a return of the virus in recent weeks.
