New Delhi: The government of India has offered emergency humanitarian assistance to the people of Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) affected by recent floods caused by Typhoon Yagi. The assistance worth $100,000 in form of flood relief has been granted by the government of India under Operation Sadbhav, a PIB release stated.

Under Operation Sadbhav, 10 tonnes of humanitarian relief material including hygiene kits, blankets, mosquito nets, sleeping bags, gensets, water purifiers, tablets and disinfectants and other materials have been sent to the government of Lao PDR on board a special aircraft from India.

Operation Sadbhav is part of India’s efforts to provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in the region. The assistance provided to Lao PDR is in line with India’s longstanding ‘Act East Policy’. “

India has been among the first responders in providing Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) to the region,” the release added.

Floods and landslides caused widespread damage to property and agricultural land affecting about 40,000 people in northern Laos.
