New Delhi: Twitter users were surprised Tuesday as a video of US President Joe Biden did the rounds on the social media platform where he was seen saying, “I sold a lot of state secrets”, at a roundtable with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Since it was in a room at the White House, with other bureaucrats and ministers — both American and Indian — the statement was interpreted as a faux pas on the US President’s part.

Users said the President “forgot the microphone was nearby” and must have accidentally let slip an “admission of guilt”. Users also pointed out Modi’s reaction to Biden’s statement, and how he seemed surprised to hear it.

However, others soon followed up on the video and added context to show that it was actually edited. The full video shows the US President starting the meeting by addressing someone and saying, “We started off without you, and I sold a lot of state secrets and important things”, after which he is seen laughing and then saying, “All kidding aside”.

As for Prime Minister Modi’s reaction, the video shows him putting on his headset and tuning in just when Biden talks about selling state secrets. But we see PM Modi soon catch on and laugh at the US President’s joke.
