Former Pakistani President Arif Alvi has called for the immediate release of Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

During a press conference in Karachi, Alvi said that the country’s progress towards success was contingent on national unity, fpr which he emphasised the need for releasing Khan.

He also addressed concerns over the violation of constitutional mandates during his tenure, inviting his opponents to pursue legal avenues if they had any grievances. Alvi vowed to defend his decisions and maintain his adherence to Pakistan’s constitution, even under Article 6 (treason).

In response to questions, Alvi said that while he was not a constitutional expert, he relied on the best available advice when making decisions. He also reaffirmed his principled stance against corruption, which he considered a fundamental commitment throughout his career.

Alvi also condemned the events of 9 May and called for a thorough investigation into the violence. Declaring Imran Khan as his leader, Alvi cautioned against over-reliance on the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
