New Delhi: The leaders of the United States and Brazil have agreed on the release of detailed voting data from Venezuela following the country’s presidential election on July 28.
In a joint statement issued after a phone call between President Joe Biden and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the two leaders said the data must be released “at the polling station level” by the country’s electoral authorities.
“The two leaders shared the perspective that the Venezuelan election outcome represents a critical moment for democracy in the hemisphere, and they pledged to remain in close coordination on the issue,” the statement said.
The presidents also agreed to deepen cooperation on other key issues, including the transition to cleaner forms of energy and the advancement of the Partnership for Workers’ Rights.
The partnership was launched by the two countries at the margins of the last UN General Assembly with the aim of empowering workers and combating some of the most pressing issues facing working people globally.
