New Delhi: US President Joe Biden discussed with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi the urgent need to reach a ceasefire and release of hostages under the recently proposed comprehensive bridging proposal on Gaza, a White House press release stated.

The US and Egypt have been engaged in negotiations to reach a deal that would free political prisoners, including Palestinian hostages, in Gaza and de-escalate regional tensions.

During their phone call, the two presidents also discussed the upcoming talks in Cairo and efforts to remove any remaining obstacles to the deal.

Both leaders agreed to remain in close coordination over the coming days, the statement said.
