Why Lakshay Kapoor wants business to be his profession, keep music as his passion

While he is a successful entrepreneur, Lakshay Kapoor says that he’s been a musician since childhood. The artiste, who has recently released the two successful singles, Galiyon Mein and Kahin Nai Jaana, says he never wanted music to be a profession for him.

“I always knew I wanted to be a businessman because I had all the qualities that are required for it. Music is my heart. It’s always been a part of me and hence I never thought that I’d grow up to be a musician. I always knew my business would be my source of bread and butter, while music would be my passion and companion for life. I never imagined myself having a band or performing at shows and charging a fee for it,” says Lakshay.

Though he is into manufacturing and exporting furniture, something with no connection to music whatsoever, Lakshay finds a relation between his profession and passion. “I believe my business has enabled me to value my music more. I feel whenever you have something in excess, you don’t value it as much. For instance, my business keeps me so occupied that I crave to hit the studio and record something. This has enabled better time management and I make sure I spend some musical hours every day,” says Lakshay.

Meanwhile, Lakshay enjoys music immensely, but he doesn’t have a guru. That’s because he doesn’t believe in learning from one person. He adds that he never learnt from one person because he wanted to retain his authenticity. He feels that when you train only under one artiste, you tend to start sounding like them or you pick up their style. It is inevitable and he didn’t want to limit himself in that sense.

But that doesn’t mean that Lakshay doesn’t want to train formally or is against having a mentor. He has an inclination towards light classical music and he plans to train in that under many learned musicians. Lakshay also feels that the audience is one’s best guru. If they like your work, that means you’re on the right track. And if they don’t, it teaches or inspires you to work harder, says the musician.
