Politicians hold the key to social change and when they decide to practice honest politics, their presence can create a tsunami of betterment for the oppressed and marginalized sections of the society. One such political leader, who rose to prominence with his significant role in reducing losses worth hundreds of crores in the Haryana sugar industry is Chander Parkash Kathuria.

Chander Parkash Kathuria belongs to the Karnal district in Haryana and he began his political career under the aegis of Chaudhary Bansilal’s Haryana Vikas Party (HVP) in the year 1995. The party recognized the young upcoming politician’s efforts in pushing the party forward and appointed him Youth president of district Karnal. That is how, in the past two decades, he has garnered quite a name for himself through his political and social activities in the state.

However, Chander Parkash’s eureka moment came when he joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alongwith President Ganesh Lal of the HVP during 2004. The shift came in the wake of his association with RSS and its ideology. Though he was given a chance to contest assembly polls in 2009, despite losing to his opponent, Chander Parkash was invited to join the state cabinet as minister. He rose to the occasion and took a number of administrative decisions, which brought reforms at various levels. During the Lok Sabha elections in 2014, Chander Parkash was appointed BJP’s election in-charge for the Karnal assembly constituency. As a result of his popular public mandate, BJP’s candidate won by a significant margin of 56,000 votes.

Two years later, he was named the Chairman of Haryana Sugar Federation, on December 13, 2016. The new job helped the spirited politician turn a new leaf in his political career. He was able to reduce the losses at the Federation by Rs 400 crores in the first fiscal year itself. The other major highlight of his tenure has been inauguration of a new sugar mill in response to the 22-year-old appeal of the sugar farmers of Panipat and Karnal.

In addition to his remarkable performance as a public servant, Chander Parkash Kathuria is also a renowned philanthropist and some of his charitable acts include providing free education to orphaned children, arranging marriage ceremonies for poor girls of marriageable age, as well as organizing shelter for abandoned cows by building Gaushalas.
