With Liverpool having a historic season, there have been discussions on who truly is the best team in the world.
Liverpool just earned their 18th consecutive victory in the Premier League and are still the leaders on the league table.
Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp addressed the ‘best in the world’ discussions. ‘This thing with the “the best team in the world”, I don’t really get it. It’s nice when people say it, it’s better than if they say you are the worst team in the world obviously’.
Usually, in the best team in the world discussions, there are always perennial contenders. Spanish giants FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are always at the top of the La Liga table and are always contenders in the Champions League where all the top teams in Europe gather to determine the strongest team.
Manchester United and Manchester City are also very consistent when it comes to performance in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

Nowadays, Liverpool suffers rare losses. One of the losses happened recently when they lost to Spanish club Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. This was only their third loss across all competitions this season.
Klopp still found a silver lining in that loss. ‘But what I loved from my team at Atletico is we didn’t play like the best team in the world, we fought like crazy to get through it. Our attitude in this game was exceptional. The quality they have is unbelievable and for 95 minutes, we were on fire and try, and try and try. We fought and that’s what I love. And that’s what people appreciate and they watch us: the intensity the boys put in even when it’s difficult’.
This is a new era for the Reds because they have not won a Premier League title since 1990. They are undefeated in their last 44 league matches and are just five wins behind Arsenal’s all-time Premier League record of 49 consecutive wins.
Liverpool is running away with the Premier League title with a staggering 79 points with their closest competition being Manchester City who has 57 points.
This is compared to Barcelona and Real Madrid who are in a close battle in the La Liga standings. The Spanish teams are indeed one of the best teams as well but sometimes you can see cracks in the armour of both teams. With injuries to major players for both clubs, there will be reduced performance all around the board.
In other parts of the world, there are many clubs that can make cases. Some of these teams are the Neymar-led Paris-Saint Germain from Ligue 1, Christiano Ronaldo and Juventus from the Italian Serie A, Thomas Müller and Bayern Munich from the Bundesliga.
Klopp may believe that they are just one of the best teams in the world, but everyone sees them as the team to beat.
