PORT-AU-PRINCE (Reuters) -Digicel, one of Haiti’s main internet providers, has partially restored its network after a fire near the capital caused a series of outages that affected services across the country, a top local executive said on Wednesday.

“Teams are working non-stop and all links will be restored today,” Haiti director Jean-Philippe Brun wrote on X about an hour after reporting the outages, saying one of three fiber-optic links had now been re-established.

Digicel and state provider NATCOM are the Caribbean country’s main internet operators.

Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince is at the center of a conflict with armed gangs which has fueled the collapse of many state services and institutions.

In September, a protest at the country’s main hydroelectric plant temporarily shut it down, forcing residents to rely on solar batteries and diesel-powered generators for power.
