MILAN (Reuters) – Oracle has signed an accord with Rai Way to install its systems for artificial intelligence applications at the Italian infrastructure firm’s data centres, the two companies said on Thursday.

Oracle’s corporate clients will be able to access Oracle’s database solutions, cloud options and disaster recovery technologies at Rai Way’s data centres, some of which are remotely located.

The companies said such data centres, located in more remote areas than the main cloud infrastructure hubs in the country, were particularly useful for cybersecurity services because that added “a further layer of protection against any attempts by cyber-criminals to locate data geographically.”

Rai Way’s main asset is the broadcasting infrastructure of Italian state television RAI.

However, the company is also striving to diversify by building a carrier-neutral network of data centres in Italy, connected through a proprietary fibre optic network running for more than 6,000 km.
