Thank you for writing this. I grew up in the NE. It has its problems but overall the people are friendly and law-abiding, unlike North Indians. When I moved to North India for work, I was shocked at the misogyny and prejudice. Racism and misogyny are very real in India.
Vishnoi, Sahu and others are not creating content out of thin air. They are depicting the reality of tribal majority states of northeast India.
A “culinary culture which includes dog meat, snakes, rats and insects” is sure to make any human being feel dizzy. It’s sure to churn the stomach of anyone. Some may even puke at the very idea.
A “sexually active under-18 girl” does not have agency, Ms. Kaur. A self-certified and self-celebrated over-the-top “feminist” like you must be able to understand this. An under-18 girl who is sexually active is simply a victim of sexual abuse. The police must look into the issue and nab the rapists and child molesters.
As far as headhunters in Nagaland is concerned, is it not a fact of life/history? Can you say with conviction that this is a fabricated story designed to malign the Nagas?
Learn to accept the truth for what it is. It may or may not offend your ideology and politics. But just because your sentiments are hurt, doesn’t make it a lie. It remains the truth.
