Kishau project, proposed to be built on Yamuna’s tributary in Dehradun, was envisaged as joint effort by Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Delhi.
The report—by a committee chaired by BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy—was tabled in Parliament Tuesday. It also said that cremations on the banks of the Yamuna should be discouraged.
Punjab & Haryana HC has directed Surveyor General of India to study the river's changing trajectory & its impact on the 2 states to resolve the ongoing land disputes along its banks.
Though only 2 percent of its total length, the 54 km section of the river that flows through Delhi accounts for over 75 percent of its total pollution load.
Advice comes at a time when India accounts for a 5th of global generic drug supply & 40% of generics used in US. However, this strength in finished formulations relies on imported ingredients.
It’s easy to understand why the government can’t speak the hard truth. When this war ends, as all wars do, India’s interests will lie with both the winner and the loser.
