Blinken, Joe Biden’s nominee, is a crucial foreign policy player. He talks about refugees, China ties, and getting Modi government to sign Paris Accord.
While ‘US should let our EC conduct its elections’ makes for feel-good conversation, democracies can no more be substituted across countries than engines across car models.
In ‘The Khalistan Conspiracy’, former R&AW officer G.B.S. Sidhu writes about the security details of Indira Gandhi’s US trip and possible threats to her life.
‘Mother kept pouring water in our eyes whenever the burning became unbearable. She pushed our bodies deep into the blanket, making sure not a single part was exposed,’ my father said.

Good to put a human face and understand this and other leaders as people first – because that’s what drives their policy. Thank you for an informative piece. Always learn something new from Jyoti Malhotra’s nuanced and rigorously researched articles.
Antony Blinken,
-supported the 2011 war that destroyed Libya and unleashed slave markets
-defended Israel’s massacres in Gaza

Poor journalism from The Print. One needs to be very wary of guitar playing cabinet secretaries.
Foreign relations are about self interest. No country cares about the internal politics of another country. India can do whatever it likes. If the US needs India, it will be all fine. If not, then it doesn’t matter. India could outright ban English and Christians and the West won’t care, they only pursue their nations’ self interest. India must follow a similar path in international relations. American allies have included Stalin, Saddam Hussein, and Pakistan; that is not a foreign policy based on morality.
India will remain India and America its own ways. They keep poking and teaching human rights and it is all fair. When it comes to strategy it is a different ball game. They are purely based on geo-political scenarios around the world. India cannot ignore America and the same is true for America. No matter who comes and goes.
India will have to claw its way back into America’s consciousness, reclaim a realistic space in its scheme of things. Dr Ashley Tellis takes a very bearish view now of the relationship. The Biden team consists of understated but very competent professionals. None more impressive than Dr Janet Yellen. Not the best audience for a Son et Lumiere show.

It would help build a good relationship with the Biden administration if India is seen as a Moral Animal. A score of ( c ) would be acceptable.
