The latest controversy over Aadhaar details being sold for as little as Rs 500 has once again raised concerns about the safety of information with UIDAI.
In a country where unemployment is at a historic high, the national anxiety isn’t about jobs — it’s about reach. Aspirations have shifted from employment to engagement, from careers to content.
So what is the choice ? India need not have any system similar to social security number ? What about security of biometrics we share with VISA issuing authorities? Are these safe? How secure are our geographical coordinates shared with various service providers? Has AADHAR become unsafe during Modi time only?
Good thing is the Modi Government continued with Aadhaar vigorously even though it was the previous government’s idea. All the data systems can be made more secure. Thank you for your comment.
The gimmick-crazy Modi government is the one that has made Aadhaar mandatory for everything. So citizens have been arm-twisted into enrolling into a system whether they trust it or not.
And it’s up to you whether you hand over your fingerprints to visa authorities. If you don’t want to, then don’t travel to that country. The choice is yours. Moreover, until now visa biometrics were not linked to anything critical like, for example, your bank account. Now with Aadhaar, it is relatively easy to find out your aadhaar number and if the visa biometric security is breached, then so is your Aadhaar and consequently, your bank account.
