Standing up to America is usually not a personal risk for a leader in India. Any suggestions of foreign pressure unites India behind who they see as leading them in that fight.
Actually the Narrative is being build here. Dalit brothers have been victims of atrocities since centuries and even the fact that most atrocities were in Haryana where Congress regime under jat CM never allowed justice to them. But now the POLPOT party supporters and some Radia type Journalist has decided to build a narrative. Look at this. After 2014, the same old anti minority tape was run and Beef became staple food for Muslims. But since nothing seem to alter the success of BJP and UP was lost the brethren decided to change strategy. It was discovered that Dalit voting for BJP is actually causing fellow Pvt Ltd Parties loose the heartland. So suddenly Cow Vigilant hibernated and beef was in back burner. Now suddenly Dalits were being beatun up, Ambedkar statues demolishion started so that DIVIDE and Rule policy can again be tested. Remember how Jignesh was discovered by Great Grandson of Nehru. So the story goes on and now The Print has decieded to take this mission of fellow brethren forward 🙂
I find it strange that raising awareness is a goal in itself. In many areas declared open defecation free it is business as usual. Infact in NCR area we can see that open defecation is routine and common. These are areas with seweage systems like no other in the country. So what is the purpose of declaration of open defecation free NCR districts when on ground nothing has changed. Roping in some petrol pums and other shops to open their toilets to public is only temporary in a few weeks the locks are back. While we may not change habits of everyone what can be done is muncipal corporations can do the job they are supposed to do. They can lift garbage in timely fashion and keep roads clean. When this is done ensuring contractors who are give task of cutting roads be the ones who are supposed to close it. Similarly those in charge of roads should ensure that dirt|mud in any form in any corner of the public space is removed. These basic steps can be done as Chandrababu Naidu showed during his tenure as CM of Andhra Pradesh.
Better sanitation, like many other desirable changes, is largely a function of economic development and rising incomes. To give an example from Bombay, when a slum is redeveloped, each family gets a small, self contained apartment, free of cost. It is linked to the BMC’s water supply and sewage disposal systems. That redresses the issue of ODF. For this programme to succeed at a national level, a lot of investment will be required in linkages for water supply and sewage disposal.
