Friday’s order was passed on a petition Saini had filed in 2018, demanding transfer of any matter registered against him to the CBI or any other independent agency outside Punjab.
Saini was arrested by Punjab's Vigilance Bureau Wednesday in connection with a case registered in September 2020 for cheating, forgery, corruption and other offences.
A 1982-batch IPS officer, Saini had been on the run for 15 days in a 29-year-old case of abduction and murder of a Sikh youth during the militancy years in Punjab.
The apex court also sought response from Punjab govt on Saini's plea challenging the Punjab & Haryana High Court order refusing to grant him anticipatory bail in the case.
Former judges and advocates have objected to the reference as ‘avoidable’, saying the two judges recused from Punjab ex-DGP Sumedh Singh Saini case for personal reasons.
Dharampal Singh was CBI officer who probed Sumedh Saini & 3 other officers for kidnapping 3 men, and filed the chargesheet. Now, at 78, he ‘doesn’t remember anything’.
The test raises a question. Why have Russian nuclear strategists now invested in the Burevestnik, when the US abandoned nuclear ramjet propulsion in 1964?
Tajikistan did not want to extend the lease because of apparent pressure from Russia & China over non-regional military personnel at the air base, it is learnt.
On 21 Oct, a buzz went up that the govt had released full list of gallantry award recipients along with Op Sindoor citations. I put an AI caddy on the job. It took me into a never-ending rabbit hole.
