The habeas corpus petition filed by Wangchuk’s wife was listed about 24 times before the Supreme Court over the past five months, with many hearings lately ending in adjournments at the Centre’s behest.
Centre said it has been engaging with stakeholders in Ladakh to address local aspirations. However, it added, frequent bandhs & protests in recent months had adversely affected daily life & economy.

Wangchuk was detained under NSA on 26 Sept after protests demanding statehood & Sixth Schedule protection for Ladakh turned violent. He was accused of instigating the violence.
Angmo has challenged Wangchuk’s detention in top court. Solicitor General says grounds disclosed to Wangchuk himself, no provision in law requires detaining authorities to share with family.
