CJI Sanjiv Khanna demitted office Tuesday for his successor BR Gavai after an eventful tenure defined by many firsts and his no-nonsense approach to judicial matters.
The Chief Justice of India was speaking on recent trends in Supreme Courts of India & US at an event organised by Society for Democratic Rights & Georgetown University Law Center.
One of them pertains to discontinued practice of circulating adjournment letters, which, SCAORA said, prevents lawyers from seeking a rescheduled date of hearing if they are indisposed.
Khanna superseded 32 seniors in appointment to top post. Despite a stellar legacy, he started his practice from Tis Hazari even as his father was a sitting Delhi High Court judge.
