Rahul Gandhi is a fifth-generation politician from the Nehru-Gandhi family and a senior Congress leader. He currently serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
Entering politics in 2004, he contested from the family stronghold of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, winning three consecutive terms before losing to the BJP’s Smriti Irani in 2019. However, he remained an MP by securing a win from Wayanad, a seat he held until 2024. He briefly served as Congress president from 2017 but resigned after the party’s poor performance in the 2019 General Elections.
Between 2022 and 2024, Rahul Gandhi led two major political marches—the 3,750-km Bharat Jodo Yatra (Kanniyakumari to Srinagar) and the 6,700-km Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra (Thoubal to Mumbai). In the 2024 elections, he made a strong comeback, reclaiming Amethi and assuming the role of Leader of the Opposition.
Because the govt is probably looking at creamy layer exclusion and subcategorization. Not jitni aabadi utna haq.
Vir Sanghvi is jaundiced and warped. The caste census when proposed by Rahul Gandhi was a cynical and divisive ploy by a man bereft of ideas only to win the next election. It is a master stroke by the Government to remove the only card Rahul had and to shape both the political debate and the actual census as it sees fit. Why is that hard to comprehend, Mr. Vir?
It’s divisive whether done by Govt or uttered by RaGa. It’s a masterstroke because govt has co-opted Raga’s divisive idea and left him with no plank. his credibility is so low (his own doing) that no one will believe govt ‘accepted’ his position.
In the same breath, you can also add that whatever leftists do is right, and whatever rightists do is wrong.
Goes to show that there is no difference between the government and the opposition and there never was. The current government doesn’t have a single original idea. All it’s schemes are continuations of UPA schemes. Unfortunately voters have no good choices as both the government and the opposition are fixated on bad ideas like caste, religion, freebies, bureaucratic control instead of healthcare, education, sanitation, economic freedom etc
