Corruption can only be tackled effectively if there is a strong push from the highest level — the political executive. This may seem like asking for the moon but it is not impossible.
Canada faces serious foreign interference issues, but these challenges must not be weaponized to unfairly target friendly and important allies like India.
In Episode 1544 of CutTheClutter, Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta looks at some top economists pointing to the pitfalls of ‘currency nationalism’ with data from 1991 to 2004.
Among 19 Indian firms sanctioned by US Treasury Dept was Lokesh Machines Ltd accused of coordinating with 'Russian defence procurement agent to import Italy-origin CNC machines'.
While we talk much about our military, we don’t put our national wallet where our mouth is. Nobody is saying we should double our defence spending, but current declining trend must be reversed.
when politican fight against each other they will not do anything for the people. So the democracy is of the rich ,for the rich and by the rich. So the poor will be more poorer and rich will be richer. We will never come back to number one position. Except in cricket
Presidential form of government is needed not only in states but at centre also. The top leadership of India must be elected directly by people. Indoor entries have done enough harm to Indian democracy. Presidential form of government is surely pro people and anti corruption. Political dynasties would evaporate into air once rulers are directly elected by people.
Many problems with a proposal like this
It will become an elitist government with 100% bhramin cabinet
Even under Modi gov. Lots of stupid people are ministers and many competent people 80% bhramins are not ministers who are MPs
In this system Finance. Minister will be Bhramin or Baniya
There are 0 Dalit or Yadav economists are specialists in any subject who are good
Will have problems and lead to agitation by Dalit

The columnist must have at least a nodding acquaintance with governance. Most states are in fact headed by CMs who function in an entirely presidential manner. More so amongst the regional parties, where there is no high command in Delhi which has the remote in its hands. Bahut achha Constitution hai hamare mulq ka. It is the people who take the oath of office who are mangling it, making it unrecognisable.
Corruption can not shrink unless
1- Judicairy is fair
2- Police is autonomus
by reducing MLA corruption can not reduce, less people will demand more share ?
By imposing Governer’s rule did ever corruption came down to Zero ?
Lo sunlo baat! Thoda dimaag toh chala leta bakne se pehle.
If for every 20k people there’s an MLA, there’d be 65k MLAs in India.
Very vague article. The writer fails to logically satisfy how presidential system would be better. What if the CM is corrupt ? What if technocrats appointed by CM are corrupt ? If presidential system is so beneficial then why not implement at Centre also ?
I think we should follow this for municipalities and corporations
Brilliant analysis!! Worth the effort as the benefits of better governance unhindered by the legislators personal agenda will usher in a drastic Change in reforms!!
First should be done in municipality level like done in TN
Need to try.
Why not at the Centre as well? Is it the assumption that corruption is rampant only among MLAs and not MPs?

What a foolish way of looking at reality.
The solution lies in increasing the number of MLAs, have one MLA for every 15 to 20 thousand population.

This will literally kill regional parties in the name of political stability and I like it.
Thought provoking idea worth to ponder over. Also, the same extended for Gram, Municipality and Corporation.

most bold piece of journalism…..but remember the indian elites will never allow it
