There are distinct signs of progress in Afghanistan, thanks to Zalmay Khalilzad, who last year took over as US special representative to the reconciliation process.
Modi and Putin sign $5.4 billion deal for S-400 missile defence system that is expected to partly compensate for India's fast-depleting fighter force level.
Indian judiciary has a corrosive imbalance between the bar and the bench. Those who supervise the district judiciary do so without the lived experience that is essential for meaningful reform.
With the US-India trade deal yet to get done, rupee depreciation may be helping to mitigate India’s loss of competitiveness. The other problem is extreme despondence among overseas equity investors.
Of the total package, $649 million will be utilised for additional hardware, software, and support services, and the remaining for Major Defence Equipment (MDE).
Don’t blame misfortune. This is colossal incompetence and insensitivity. So bad, heads would have rolled even in the old PSU-era Indian Airlines and Air India.
” Bilateralism has failed…..” story by Mr.Shekhar Gupta indeed beckons towards a new trend emerging on the world scenario which I shall call
” Free For All Game” -where might is right principle will rule the roost !
Then trends will also continue undergoing changes as per this universal principle, the marriage of conveniences and suitabilities so on at the international level !
Now the fact cannot be denied that both India and Pakistan did dance to the tunes of United States of America- its President Donald Trump, Saudi Arabia- its Crown Prince MBS calling the shots in the wake of both February, 14 Pulwama Terror Attack , February 26 and 27 follow up tug of wars between India and Pakistan ! The foreign nations will be deciding what is what in case of disputes between two nations ? Naturally, the nations in dispute onwards must exert and devote time and energies on wooing maximum foreign countries’ favour to succeed on to the diplomatic front !
Therefore, arises the dire need of a smart and strong person as the external affairs minister of a nation to twist diplomacy to a nation’s advantage in the present and future times making him or her far more important than either the Prime Minister or President of a nation !
A time has come when right-wrong , good-bad, moral-immoral and fair- foul have instantly turned into relative terms !
Mr.Modi in wake of changing world scenario must think of changing his earlier stance ! He should now nourish the idea of becoming External Affairs Minister because he has already gone through the rigours of rough and tough Prime Ministerial term ! What is the fun of becoming a Prime Minister if one is supposed to follow Donald Trump or foreign powers’ dictates ? Moreover, NaMo can attain grand success as an External Affairs Minister in the times to come because he is an internationally renowned figure !
He should try his luck in a new venture too which will also suit India’s interests !

what is the fun in becoming Foreign Minister when PM will eventually toe the line of Trump or MBS……
Why shouldn’t India act like a big power? In fact the Balakot air strikes are one and the correct step towards that. Escalation is necessary for stabilising the power equations. ignore the word ‘nuclear rivals’ used by Western media so often. Rivalry is between equals. That said, act like a big power, just as India did today at OIC, clearly exposing that Pakistan is a loser.
Gentleman,
The present scenario makes it evident that India led by NaMo is acting how to dance to the tunes of Donald Trump’s USA and Crown
Prince MBS of Saudi Arabia , what to talk of becoming a big power ?
India to become a big world power must get rid of megalomanics, authoritarians and power hungry persons !
Nation above everything can indeed pave its way towards this cherished goal ! It is the only and only course !
This is precisely I wrote in my comment to Shekhar Gupta’s earlier article, that sum total of Mr Modi’s attitude to Kashmir is that we are now precariously close to internationalization of Kashmir issue. Who knows, we might soon see UN peacekeeping forces roaming the streets of Srinagar and other towns of the Valley!
India and Pakistan have not moved fifty millimetres forward with their bilateral dialogue in the fifty years since the Simla Accord. The last fortnight has shown how even nuclear deterrence – the ultimate guarantor of peace – is failing to prevent bad blood from boiling over into conflict. Without the calming influence of the US, assisted by KSA / UAE – China one cannot be certain – Wing Commander Abhinandan would not have been released, tensions would have been high. Domestic politics and segments of a polarising media are stirring the pot. Sooner or later, we will find ourselves where we absolutely should not be. 2. The United States and China – others like Russia can help a little – are needed at the table which has stubbornly accommodated only two chairs so far, vacant all the time. Their presence will reassure both sides. Having China in the room, helping us stabilise the relwith Pakistan, May have the very desirable corollary of our clearing the air with the dragon as well. This has been a scary moment, although the worst seems to be over. Treat it as a wake up call – a word I normally detest – and move to stabilise the hostility. It will not resolve Kashmir, but redraw red lines that both sides can respect and abide by.
Sir, I would like to know whats your view on the action taken by IAF. Aren’t they were thoughtful and executed smoothly? Isn’t government right in doing so especially we having failed for so many years .
