Abdon Mech is set to create history at Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Race Course on 11 January as the first-ever musician from India’s northeast opening for a Grammy-winning artist.
A new agreement brings into existence the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority, with six eastern districts of Nagaland—Tuensang, Mon, Kiphire, Longleng, Noklak and Shamator—under it.
Today, the Amur falcon is the talk of the town. But one chapter of its story begins in mass slaughter; a reminder of the importance of community-driven conservation.
It wasn't the negotiations with Naga rebel leaders that marked the turning point for the state. It was the establishment of the Department of Development of North Eastern Region.
At reception organised by civil society organisations under aegis of United Naga Council, nearly a thousand supporters staged a musical performance for Muivah.
V S Atem, deputy of Thuingaleng Muivah, asserts peace can be made when two sides will put out their hand to shake with each other. Nagas are ready to live in peace, he adds.
Muivah said India has lost political will to implement in letter & spirit Amsterdam Joint Communique & Framework Agreement that recognise 'Nagalim’s sovereignty, national flag & constitution'.
Initial talks held on the possibility of India entering the programme that was started in 2017 between France, Germany and Spain to ensure European sovereignty in defence and security.
The commentors on this article seem to forget that Northeast people have been regularly hounded in the mainland for their looks, eating habits and religion. Northeast fares far better than the Bimaru states on all HDI parameters even though they are among the least funded states. It is high time northeast deserves more development funds from central government.
The reporter is spot on in his assessment. Christian communalism combined with xenophobia against non-tribals is the reason BJP did not do well in north-east India. Having lived for over 15 years in various states of north-east India I can vouch for the fact that the various tribes inhabiting the region have an utterly xenophobic attitude towards the resident non-tribals. What is ironic is that they want equality, respect and dignity while they are in mainland India but deny the very same to the non-tribal residents in their own state.
The non-tribal lives in constant fear of violence and intimidation. They are routinely harassed and hounded. For example, the Khasi Students Union (KSU) routinely unleashes violence targeting the non-tribals in Meghalaya.
Mr. Roy Barman, these Christian majority states, for whom your heart so bleeds, are nothing but basketcases. Ever since Independence, all these Christian majority states have done is to beg and borrow from Delhi while giving nothing back at all. These states are absolute laggards with hardly any contribution at all to the national GDP.
What is even worse is the extreme xenophobia prevalent amongst these tribal states. Mainland Indians are the target of violence and intimidation almost on a daily basis. Abusing the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, the natives of these Christian majority states harrass and hound the non-tribal population.
Kindly be honest enough to report the truth about these states.
