Banda chief judicial magistrate court has initiated a judicial probe into Ansari's death at behest of UP govt and appointed an additional judge of the court as the inquiry officer.
The gangster-turned-politician was brought to Rani Durgavati Medical College in Banda from district jail in 'unconscious state' Thursday. He died at the hospital following cardiac arrest.
Ansari was taken to Banda Medical College Thursday after his health deteriorated. His brother Afzal Ansari, who is a Ghazipur MP, alleged that he was given poison in jail.
In 1987, Ansari had sought arms license for a double-barreled gun & allegedly forged signatures of then Ghazipur DM & SP for the same. An MP/MLA court in Varanasi had Tuesday convicted him.
Apart from Atiq and Ashraf, Vijay Mishra also represented gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari. He had called the killings of Atiq & Ashraf a 'political conspiracy'.
This comes days after CM announced decision to 'recover Rs 55 lakh', spent on 'keeping Ansari in a Punjab jail', from former CM & his jails minister Sukhjinder Randhawa.
Mann had announced costs for keeping Ansari in Punjab jail would be recovered from the two leaders. While Amarinder called it 'foolish', Randhwaha says he will take legal recourse.
