Understanding who 'real Modi' is an issue since PM made some 'strange' decisions, said economy expert Martin Wolf in conversation with ThePrint’s Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta.
Martin Wolf, Chief Economics Commentator at the Financial Times was the guest at ThePrint's Off the Cuff. Wolf talked about how the Indian economy has...
He was the bridge connecting the era of legendary actors like Bachchan and Khanna in the 70s, Govinda and Salman Khan in the 90s, and even later, in films like Malamaal Weekly and Dhamaal.
Institute of Chartered Accountants of India president Charanjot Singh Nanda, a stakeholder in govt's plans to promote home-grown consulting firms, speaks on what is holding back domestic firms.
After initially showing interest in supplying the long-range missile to Ukraine, Trump appeared hesitant following his meeting with Zelenskyy, a day after his phone call with Putin.
Education, reservations, govt jobs are meant to bring equality and dignity. That we are a long way from that is evident in the shoe thrown at the CJI and the suicide of Haryana IPS officer. The film Homebound has a lesson too.
Wolf pointed out all India’s obvious problems everyone knows. But what’s the solution, which he dared not said but hinting Modi team has no experts, and its conflicting security vs economy policy with China.
Embracing of US will spell disaster for India, fighting China to last Indian, paid in rupees.
India will be cultivated like farm with chemical fertilizer, pesticides & GMO, to be harvested by West capitalists until barren. Ask debt laden Latin America that is once wealthy until West capitalists creep up their shores with usury loans-investments.

The problem with these analyses is that these foreigners do not know the realities of India. The economic problems of India are only a part of India’s bigger challenges. The central challenge is to counter the breaking India forces that have been given a free run for 70+ years by the fascist congressi-communist forces – sometimes unknowingly and most of the times knowingly. These foreign “economists” do not know or do not care about the existential threats that the congi-commy fascists pose to India’s survival as a nation. The economic challenge pales in comparison.

My heart tells me Self reliance – unpronounceable in Sanskrit – is just a phrase to be marketed. It lacks deep intellectual content, has not been thought through. Make in India too has fizzled out, but it was a worthwhile idea. Boosting the share on industry in GDP from 16 to 25 % was a national mission that ought to have been pursued, with benefits for employment and experts. As with the assertion that there have been no intrusions, Aatma Nirbharta is something the mandarins and others will tie themselves in knots trying to reconcile with the economic policies everyone understands are good / needed for India.

Days of seeking a white man’s advice in Indian affairs is long over.
