As Narendra Modi becomes India’s second-longest consecutively serving Prime Minister, we look at how he compares with Indira Gandhi across four key dimensions.
Manohar Lal Khattar of Haryana and Vijay Rupani of Gujarat , both the CMs are jokes. As you say, “they have done their best to model themselves on Modi and their governance on Modi’s.” Imitation is the best form of flattery, as the saying goes! Rupani’s predecessor Anandiben and Aditya Nath of UP were also bad choices for CM. Modi had never groomed anybody to take over from him in Gujarat. He was OK with Anandiben, although Amit Shah didn’t like her. So she was made the CM, but was forced out by Amit Shah at the first opportunity. Aditya Nath was also not a good choice for CM of UP. Merit was not the consideration. Recently Amit Shah said that although Aditya Nath hadn’t run even a municipality, he was selected for CM because of his loyalty! And of course, Yeddyurappa is a proven corrupt man. These CMs act according to instructions from Delhi. Yeddyurappa was kept waiting for some days before Modi/Amit Shah approved his cabinet expansion plan!
Good analysis. Perhaps the unfair comparison of people of different generations could be avoided because many of the conditions prevailing are different.
