HC was hearing plea for quashing of criminal proceedings against one accused of protesting & sloganeering against 2019 SC verdict awarding disputed land in Ayodhya for construction of temple.
In May, SC had put the law on hold till the Centre completed its review of the colonial relic & had asked the Union and state governments not to register any fresh case against it.
A three-judge bench led by CJI UU Lalit observed that the Constitution equates education with charity and it isn’t to be treated as business, trade or commerce
According to the Memorandum of Procedure (MoP), the CJI names the senior-most judge as his or her successor, which is Justice D Y Chandrachud in this case.
The Centre's submission came in an affidavit filed before the SC in relation to the 103rd Amendment Act 2019, which provided 10% reservation to economically weaker sections.
