The apex court agreed to look into the plea after advocate Shobha Gupta mentioned the petition filed by Bilkis Bano before Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud.
The top court was hearing a batch of pleas seeking a collegium-like system for the appointment of the CEC. The court pointed out that since 2004, no CEC has completed the six-year tenure.
