As India’s first mall devoted to handicrafts, The Kunj has more in common with the swanky DLF Emporio nearby than with its Nehru-era sibling, Cottage Emporium in Janpath.
The partnership involves Kolhapuri artisans from Maharashtra and Karnataka. It will also include a three-year training programme to help Indian artisans upgrade their skills.
Artisans have stopped supplying products, and even basic utilities like air conditioning have been shut off. Employees hold on, hoping that the Cottage Emporium can rise again.
A critical issue in the artisan sector is the disparity in value distribution, with artisans who are at the heart of production often receiving the smallest share of profits.
The key to fighting a war successfully, or even launching it, is a clear objective. That’s an entirely political call. It isn’t emotional or purely military.
