Farmers planted the illegal HTBt cotton in Maharashtra last month, saying they wanted ‘independence’. Here’s all you need to know about the controversy.
This is the first concrete action taken by Maharashtra Police weeks after farmers from some districts defied the ban on genetically-modified crops by openly sowing them.
State panel says since "environment and health are national issues", central agencies should investigate case of Bt brinjals being sold in markets across north India.
An explosive email from ICC CEO to the PCB, accusing it of compromising ICC rules by making a video of match officials before the match with UAE, shows the fire isn’t doused yet.

I think Monsanto chocked you with money for this article . Countries around the world banned GM foods and products this Monsanto is next to devil company and you advocate it’s agenda. Farmers profit is a distraction just to enter the market GM foods are harmful
I want to add a very important point that Vijay N. Waghmare missed (or maybe the reporter did not report).
The point is in relation to “This could create a situation akin to what the world is witnessing today with antibiotic resistance — misuse of over-the-counter antibiotics has caused several strains of disease-causing bacteria to become immune to existing medications.”
Does this mean that antibiotics are to be banned? It is the stupidest possible analogy. There are benefits that the current generation (which is the poorest) must reap and we leave it to science to develop any further improvements in the future.
India is banning technology that is widely used across the world. In Australia, of the cotton currently grown in Australia, over 94% contains Bt technology and over 99% of this contains herbicide-tolerant traits. What is so special about India that our farmers must be penalised while farmers of developed countries can happily grow the latest and best varieties of crops?
DO NOT HARM INDIAN FARMERS IN THE INTEREST OF SPECULATIVE FUTURE CHANGES. INDIAN GOVERNMENT IS ALSO ACTING STUPIDLY BY SAYING THAT THE COMPANY THAT DEVELOPS THE TECHNOLOGY CANNOT PROFIT FROM IT.
If well regulated, farmers will get good and better quality seeds at a lower price and the company can be made responsible for the responsible use of the seeds. The current lawless situation is harming the farmers and possibly even the environment since it is unregulated.
