All communities loved and trusted him, but he rose to be the Muslim most loved by India's Hindu majority in our entire history, possibly since Mughal Emperor Akbar.
India cannot be blasé about change in any important capital in the world. Let's look at six key areas where US policy matters for India and how it may vary between Harris and Trump.
In Episode 1544 of CutTheClutter, Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta looks at some top economists pointing to the pitfalls of ‘currency nationalism’ with data from 1991 to 2004.
Troops patrolled up to Patrolling Point (PP) 10 on Monday. Though there are PP 10, 11, 12, 12A & 13 in Depsang Plains, it was decided that only one or two PPs would be patrolled.
While we talk much about our military, we don’t put our national wallet where our mouth is. Nobody is saying we should double our defence spending, but current declining trend must be reversed.
Didn’t read the full article as the title itself was repulsive. Calling him as an Indian Muslim is really sad, rather sarcastic as he never made us feel that way even once during the three decades we have known him. Yes, he is a karma yogi and only that and let’s not give any religious tone to his character.
commenting just on the headline of the article he was able to leave such legacy because he kept the distance from suckers like you and your CON masters
Like a true karma yogi, Dr Abdul Kalam died with his boots on, lecturing to a group of young students, his favourite Indians, at the IIM Shillong. His mortal remains were received at the airport by President Pranab Mukherjee, going beyond protocol. Reaching out to Muslims, giving them a place of eminence, even someone a lot less deserving of the honour than President Kalam was, is not tokenism or appeasement. It is an acknowledgement of the fact that we are a diverse society, enriched by the contribution of many communities.
Sir, A very good tribute to what Dr. Kalam stood for. His intervention during Gujrat riots and then CM following Raj Dharma could have seen a different India today.
Third death anniversary of India’s icon as well as Bharat Rattan Dr APJ Abdul Kalam !
Remembering this all time greatest Indian celebrity while going through your sublime piece, I must admit very candidly that it has indeed amused, cheered and brightened up my spirits quite overwhelmingly !
I am of the conviction that ” Dr Kalam No More ” is more powerful than the ” Dr Kalam Living” !
Many lessons to be learnt and his footprints if followed spiritedly can still prove to be a silver lining and blessing in disguise for the Indian Polity which finds itself very badly mired in mess and chaos at present !
The write-up paints a very beautiful and inspiring picture of a man of letters who swayed a very deep and everlasting impact on the lives of “We Indians” very objectively and magnanimously ! I really felt motivated and encouraged after reading his distinguished autobiography entitled, ” The Wings of Fire ” !
If on the one hand two BJP veteran stalwarts- Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Mr.Lal Krishan Advani deserve kudos for their masterstroke for nominating Dr. Kalam for the august office of President of India, then on the other hand, the BJP’s duo of
supremos-Mr. Narendra Modi and Mr.Amit Shah must take leaf out of the book of this simple, God -loving Indian Muslim
who left a very rich legacy behind him in all the walks of life ! Rising above petty -parochial considerations, embracing and
enveloping humanity in an inclusive spirit can take India on to the top of world !
How to translate his dreams and ideas into actuality ?
Dr. Kalam- a weapon designer of the highest order in the world was an academician and explorer par excellence. A scholar in
true sense of the word without a real doctorate that is Ph.D, he excelled in various realms of this universe. Taking in to account,
the miserable plight of temples of higher learning, the hard and fast taboos pertaining to eligibility qualifications and age adhered
to very strictly should be relaxed in deserving cases to encourage and promote higher learning tendencies and outlook in the nation !
Thrust should be on talent hunt not on sheer completing the formality in the name of eligibility conditions ! It is practically so
because to meet eligibility conditions, people did stoop very low to manage Ph.D degree by hook or crook ! So much so Ph.D degrees turned out to be a sale business in many parts of India ! I dwelt at length on Dr. Kalam’s example of a scientist sans a Ph.D degree to bring home the idea of what is really happening in the colleges and universities of India !
Dr.Kalam was a visionary who dreamed of ensuring affordable quality education and affordable health care system in India !
Above all, he was a passionate lover of mankind aspiring for its welfare and well- being all the time !
On this day, we all must take a pledge to emulate his remarkable values, thoughts, ideals, qualities of head and heart !
