In first comments on talks between two leaders, MEA says issues of trade & tariffs were raised by EAM Jaishankar during his meeting with American Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Strongly criticising use of tariffs & sanctions on countries keeping ties with Russia, the minister indicated that the end to conflict can only be achieved via diplomatic means.
The meeting scheduled for Monday is part of continuing effort to strengthen India-US ties, which had come under strain in recent months but have since shown signs of recovery.
Jaishankar's remarks comes shortly after Modi responded warmly to Trump's affirmation of India-US ties, expressing that he ‘deeply appreciates & fully reciprocates’ his sentiments.
