The Constitution is silent on states (apart from J&K) having their own flag, and in an election year, the Congress govt is planning to put the Centre in a quandary.
The need for an overhaul of the Constitution has also been evidenced by the setting up of the National Commission to Review the Working of the Constitution (NCRWC) in 2000. Our Constitution has already been amended 101 times.
Our Constitution is not defined by individual words such as “socialism” or “secularism.” It is constituted by the text as a whole, by its structure, by the historical processes, movements, and debates that led to its framing. , writes Gautam Bhatia
The Constitution of India is dedicated to the ideas of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. Any identification, beyond that of being ‘Indian' is not secular.
Historically, the imposition of restrictions on the right of citizens to freedom of speech and expression in the Constitution was neither inevitable nor unopposed.
Bengalis are hurt over a statement by the Delhi police calling Bangla a ‘Bangladeshi language’ and the lines Azad sang have unwittingly become protest music in Kolkata now.
Centre for Science and Environment in new report makes case for rationalising GST on waste material, saying most informal operators can’t afford high tax & it also hinders recycling.
Standing up to America is usually not a personal risk for a leader in India. Any suggestions of foreign pressure unites India behind who they see as leading them in that fight.
What is incomprehensible is this nonsense about ‘checkmating Modi’ ? How is PM Modi “checkmated” ? According to the Constitution of India – there is only one flag of consequence, the national flag. All other flags have no relevance to the constitution of India and Siddharamiah or anybody else is allowed to fly any flag they want provided it subscribes to the rules governing the display of the national flag.
The Center will return the Karnataka Govt’s petition saying that there is no procedure for ratifying a state flag and that it is not illegal to fly state flags. Let Siddharamiah fly his state flag – the Karnataka bJP will fly a different Karnataka flag and the JD(U) will fly a different Karnataka flag and the issue will be diluted.
This feeble attempt at “flag waiving” will bring Siddharamiah scant rewards. Only a political novice would be flummoxed by this stratagem .
When so called legal experts who have put in their entire life in studying law and practicing it, gives such baseless opinion it shows how biased he is. While Constitution doesn’t provide for flag, it neither prohibits it. Let Central Govt take Karnataka Govt to court, ppl will answer to the central govt.
Now INC, which once spearheaded the independence struggle, is now following the footsteps of our conqurer, the British. Divide and rule it is called. Do everything possible and ensure that you can rule. Shame on INC. Direct question to Rahul Gandhi, do you think your grandfather would have approved of this. Congress of Nehru is long dead. Let’s get rid of this corpse.
It is but natural that an act that has the potential to divide the country is hailed by your publication as checkmating Modi. It seems in your worldview defeating Modi is more important than maintaining the integrity of the national. Shame on you

Couldn’t have put it better. When education, media platform and ability to articulate goes into wrong hand. This is what we get.
NDA should reject it and trust the common kannadiga’s ability to differentiate between symbols and acts.
