1. One can understand why both MP Shashi Tharoor and Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh are making pleas for ending the uncertainties as regards election of new Congress President. 2. Important question to be asked here is this: who can save the Congress party at this juncture? Suggestion of Captain Amarinder Singh to appoint Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra as Congress President may be welcomed by some Congressmen but not by all. However, I feel that as and when new Congress Working Committee (CWC) is formed, Smt Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Ms Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra, that is, not one of them should become members of the reconstituted CWC. I this decision would be better future of the Congress party and also for ensuring internal democracy in the party. 3. If someone wishes to revive Congress party and rebuild it, he/she must find out why it has been reduced to status of a regional party. Citizen-voters like me, who believe that the Congress party has a future as left of the centre political party, wish that senior Congress leaders should make viable plans to reorganize the party. 4. Obviously, the Congress party has to reassert its place in our political space. My unsolicited suggestion is that the Congress would do well if it gets done a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis of the organization. I believe SWOT study would be definitely useful in efforts to reorganize and rebuild the Congress party.
Henry Ford used to say about his Model T : You can have any colour, so long as it’s black. Hold all the elections you like, So long as it’s a Gandhi at the helm. Or someone totally beholdent to them. In the circumstances, it would be intellectually more honest to appoint Ms Priyanka Gandhi as the next President. For entirely different reasons, she should keep both her brother and her husband out of the decision making loop.
Why can’t Amarinder Singh be the Congress President? Seems to be more of a patriot than most present day Congis. May give a real challenge to BJP on that front.
Priyanka’s qualification is what? Her father, grand mother and great grandfather have been prime ministers? And you even call this “honest”?! With this level of “honesty” and sycophancy, Congis and sicularists obsessed against the growth of BJP.
