So there you are, all these principles and insurgency is NOW not based on ideals; it is purely based on “roti, kapda, makan” and if possible something in addition. The naxalitte movement of the 1960s in Kerala was nipped in the bud with interaction of the society and development, mostly through funds from Dubai et al. The movement started in my home district when I was in School. I have seen it from close.
That the Maoists now do not come to the negotiating table is proof enough that some old timers within that outfit want to retain their power for personal gratification rather than for principles or general welfare. This has to be widely publicized by the local societies and the media, instead of sympathizing with these criminals that they have become. If they shun violence there will me many private enterprises willing to develop the area. I fail to see why that can’t be a win-win for all.
Tailpiece: Yes, they can be given a chance to rehabilitate suitably as most of the rank in the Maoists cadre are there by force or compulsion and not by choice.
