The yatra was restricted to a group of Sadhus last year due to the Covid pandemic, while a year earlier it was called off on 2 August mid-way due to a "terror threat".
The court directed the J&K administration to place the 10 July status report on holding Amarnath Yatra and other relevant material before the SASB for its consideration.
The bench led by Justice D.Y. Chandrachud noted that the decision to restrict or cancel Amarnath Yatra should be made by the local authorities based on local conditions.
Govt had cancelled the yatra in April, but Amarnath shrine board called for a future review of the decision. Announcement on new rules likely next week.
