There is no shame in taking the help extended to us by friends.
Earlier this week, on 20-21 August, I travelled to Geneva, Switzerland, where I held a series...
The civil aviation ministry could have recognised the enormity of the Air India crash and prepared the AAIB and its investigating team for its sensitivities.
Mini deal will likely see no cut in 10% baseline tariff on Indian exports announced by Trump on 2 April, it is learnt, but additional 26% tariffs are set to be reduced.
PTC Industries is investing Rs 1,000 cr in 4 manufacturing plants in UP, has already started supplying titanium parts to BAE Systems for its M-777 howitzers that India also uses.
Public, loud, upfront, filled with impropriety and high praise sometimes laced with insults. This is what we call Trumplomacy. But the larger objective is the same: American supremacy.
Mr.Tharoor’s good Samaritan attempts done for Kerala is praiseworthy. There will be cacophonic critics who cannot deliver what Mr.Tharoor has.The type of his I’ll is very rare in this stupid and cruel world.
Thank you Parliamentarian Mr.Tharoor for taking up the cause of Kerala denizens and using your international network and influence as the former Under Secretary General with the UN. We have to use all means necessary to bring Kerala up and running again. That includes all level of aid from friends all over. We are thankful for your leadership and know you will have Kerala’s back at all times. We see a proud malayalee and a proud Indian in you undoubtedly! More power to you!
Khalil Gibran on Giving and Receiving:
For in truth it is life that gives unto life while you, who deem yourself a giver, are but a witness.
And you receivers… and you are all receivers… assume no weight of gratitude, lest you lay a yoke upon yourself and upon him who gives.
Rather rise together with the giver on his gifts as on wings;
For to be overmindful of your debt, is to doubt his generosity who has the freehearted earth for mother, and God for father.
I would like to work with Mr Tharoor to rebuild Kerala…it needs everyone to support his commendable efforts glocal is what he does with his eclectic career ..Kerala is lucky to have him as an MP …just built a house in Idukki would like to work.on rehab as been consultant to UN agencies and ingos last two decades..
A very commendable attempt by the MP. In a country where any action in the political spectrum irrespective of sincerity behind such acts, leads to mudslinging, it is no wonder even this attempt has received more brick bats than accolades. The interesting part is the fact that, the expenditure on the tour was met by the MP himself, unlike taxpayers’ money spent for foreign trips by many of his detractors.
An absolute fraud if ever there was one. Why did he not use his discretionary fund instead of claiming to run to his former crook.. er. colleagues at the UN?
Let hatred not be the reason for your negative comment. Has he used the taxpayers money.
Hatred has nothing to do with it. Annan was a crook as the oil-for-food scandal showed as well as nepotistic. Furthermore, he was directly responsible for the death of over half a million Hutus in the Rwanda massacre as well as the killings in Srebenica. Tharoor has zero reason to go to Geneva other than to consort with his erstwhile colleagues and the family of the late Annan. That he spent his own funds does not detract from the fact that he told the court he was going there for Annan’s death and Kerala was an afterthought when he in fact should have been in Kerala physically.
his discretionary funfs!.are you aware howuch it is ? or how much is required? Discrationary funds are just not enough.
Why does he need to travel with so much influence? He could have easily organised this aid by using technology.
Why didn’t you ask this question to your PM when he spent 4200cr of tax payers’ money on travelling alone? He cud hv used his gadgets & technology too… ????
face to face meetings bring better response than electronic communication. f.Further he did not cost to state, central govt nor public money.
Well coordinated efforts. Help in terms of money or kind is the need of hour .
It is a commendable effort on the part of the Thiruvanathapuram M.P. Dr Shashi Tharoor. We must appreciate that Dr Tharoor as an M.P. himself took initiative and apprised the different agencies at the UN of the gravity of the situation. Such an approach was possible only due to his decades-long association with the world body. Certainly, the state of Kerala has suffered the worst disaster in a centuary. The devastating floods claimed more than three hundred precious lives besides destruction of thousands of houses and infrastructure. The floods have started receding; it is time for rehabilation work to be undertaken on a war foot basis. Rebuilding efforts and rehabitatiom of thousands of people are a mammoth task, wbich the state government alone cannot undertake. GoI for the sake of the affected people should seek the expert guidance and financial aid of the UN.
Praiseworthy initiative by the columnist. Apart from the benefits that should accrue to Kerala at such a difficult time, it adds a deeper dimension to how India can work with the UN system and the global community should similar situations arise elsewhere in future. To say that we are self sufficient, decline generous offers of assistance from abroad is being both short sighted and small hearted, possibly the only instance when a decision made by Dr Singh is being quoted as a gold standard. 2. The people of Kerala have made a lasting impression the Gulf, so UAE’s contribution is richly merited. However, Malayalees have done well all over the world. Their individual contributions as well as aid offered by countries where they reside will help the state cope better with such an immense tragedy.
Since foreign minister is not taking responsibility he has taken on his own capacity. You idiot Ashok menon being a keralite should be proud of him.
Bloody idiotic and oversmart Tharoor, you are not the Foreign Minister of India!!!
