(Reuters) – Georgia striker Georges Mikautadze has completed a 13-million euro permanent transfer from Ajax Amsterdam back to French club Metz, where he played the second half of last season on loan.
French-born Mikautadze scored three goals as debutants Georgia impressed at the European Championship, reaching the round of 16 before they were beaten 4-1 by Spain on Sunday.
He is joint top scorer at Euro 2024 with Germany’s Jamal Musiala and Slovakia’s Ivan Schranz.
The 23-year-old joined Ajax from Metz at the start of the 2023-24 season but failed to earn a regular place in the starting line-up and was loaned back to the Ligue 1 side in January, scoring 11 goals in 17 starts.
He made nine appearances for Ajax without finding the back of the net.
