PARIS (Reuters) – Chris Hoy might be one of the most successful Olympic cyclists of all time but that cut no ice with Parisian security staff on Tuesday when the Briton left his rental bike in the wrong place.

Hoy, six-time gold medallist and 11-times world champion in the velodrome, parked the bike outside the UNESCO headquarters as he arrived to be honoured, and also present prizes, at an event to mark the 100th anniversary of the International Sports Press Association.

Gate security staff instructed the man whose performances earned him an MBE and a knighthood to “get on his bike” and move it elsewhere to a designated parking zone, which, of course, he immediately did with an apology and his usual courtesy.
